2014 Mayo Arts Festival & Aboriginal Day a great success! June 22, 2014

Filed under: Uncategorized — mayoarts @ 10:59 pm

What a terrific day we had, there were forecasts of rain all week but to our great relief the sun shone all day long, not a drop of rain to be had!

The Aboriginal Day Traditional Regalia Fashion Show and Art Gallery were incredible!  The music line-up was fantastic with an wide range of music styles performed throughout the day and into the evening!  The Arts Tent held numerous workshops and demonstrations that were well attended and enjoyed by all!

See you all next year when the Mayo Midnight Marathon celebrates it’s 20th Anniversary!

This year, the Mayo Arts Festival is teaming up with NNDFN’s Aboriginal Day.  There are lots of very cool Aboriginal Day events being planned: bannock on the campfire, an artist gallery, a traditional regalia fashion show, a historic photo exhibit, great art, great music and lots of fun!

We are really looking forward to a great combined celebration of the Arts of the Stewart Valley area communities!

Vernon Ball has been found! June 22, 2013

I wanted to put this post out right away!  Vernon Ball has been found and is fairly good shape for being lost and followed by a bear for two days.  He came out on the road towards Stewart Crossing.  He is being treated at the Mayo Nursing Station.

What an answer to our prayers!

We will still hold our dedication ceremony at the Mayo Arts Festival but it will be truly joyful!

Mayo Arts Festival is going to take place as scheduled. June 21, 2013

The community of Mayo has been undergoing a search and rescue operation for one of our dear community members, Vernon Ball.  After much discussion about if we should post-pone the Arts Festival, the decision was made tonight to hold the Mayo Arts Festival.

Vernon’s family would like to see the Arts Festival go ahead as planned.

We are therefore going to dedicate 2013 Mayo Arts Festival to the “Search For Vernon” and the Festival will begin with a prayer and a ceremony of uplifting gospel songs and drumming in honour of the ongoing search.  People will be encouraged to take part of their day to help with search based out of Na Cho Nyak Dun Government House.
